Beautiful Kitchens – March 2013 – on sale today

    by  • January 31, 2013 • Kitchen news, Kitchens • 0 Comments

Our marvellous March issue goes on sale today and you really won’t want to miss it.

If you’re thinking of extending your kitchen, you’ll want to read our step-by-step guide first.  We also have expert advice on choosing the right flooring, worktops and laundry appliances and we’ll help you find the right gas hob, butcher’s block, hand mixer and filter tap, too. Our gallery features will help you choose a stylish larder, show you how to create an open-plan kitchen and find the perfect white cabinetry, from budget to bespoke.

We have ten real-life kitchens this month. I particularly like Jo and Simon’s pretty, blue painted country kitchen. They created their dream kitchen on a budget and saved money by fitting and painting the units themselves. I think you’ll agree, the results are pretty impressive.

    We hope you enjoy it.

If you want to create a vibrant, colourful feature wall in your kitchen-diner, look no further than Sophie Conran’s new collection of wallcoverings for Arthouse. There are nine beautiful designs in her new ‘Reflections’ range, all inspired by her travels across the globe and her childhood in the English countryside.

This vibrant red design works well in this kitchen-diner, with the hi-gloss red and grey furniture and simple white shutters and floor. It would look equally striking with black furniture and accessories, too.

    Two-tone kitchens

by  • December 6, 2012 • Kitchen design, Kitchen furniture, Kitchen news, Kitchen trends, Kitchens, New designs • 0 Comments

The trend for two-tone kitchens continues with these two designs from Woodstock Furniture. Here, a hand-painted bank of tall units in duck-egg blue contrasts perfectly against the cream painted working kitchen areas. Granite worktops complete the look.

And here an oak island and roll down tambour door work well against the hand-painted soft grey cabinets.

    Good news for left-handed cooks

by  • November 15, 2012 • Accessories, Favourite things, Gadgets, Kitchen news, Kitchens, Shopping • 0 Comments

What do you think I have in common with Barack Obama, Prince William and Sylvester Stallone?… Give up?

    Well, we’re all left-handed!

Now, this is probably more of a problem in the kitchen for me, than it is for them, but I find some kitchen utensils really awkward to use. My mother has taken a potato peeler out of my hand, before now, because I’m holding it so awkwardly, she’s convinced I’m going to slice my finger off.

So, the Left-Handers Essential Kitchen Set, could be the answer.

The set contains left-handed kitchen scissors, which have the blades

    Kitchen dining

by  • November 5, 2012 • Kitchen furniture, Kitchen news, Kitchens, New designs • 0 Comments

Space is at a premium in my kitchen, so this hugely practical table, from Steuart Padwick, really caught my eye. You can fold it in half and push it against the wall, to act as a console table or breakfast bar, or bring it out and extend it to seat up to six people. It’s available in lemon yellow, or for a small extra charge, any colour you want. The top is veneered in oak with a clear lacquer.

If space isn’t a problem in your kitchen, these dining chairs, from La Residence Interiors, certainly add the ‘wow’ factor to this beautiful kitchen diner. The Kingsley and the Burford dining chairs, are both upholstered in linen, have button detailing and a weathered, oak frame.

    Getting your kitchen lighting right

by  • October 22, 2012 • Kitchen design, Kitchen news, Kitchens, Lighting • 0 Comments

The lighting in my kitchen is pretty good. This is no thanks to me, it was there when I moved in and after my poorly lit previous kitchen, I was all the more appreciative.

However, getting the lighting right in your kitchen has become a little bit easier, now Mereway Kitchens have joined forces with Sensio Lighting. The Mereway/Sensio range of HD LED lighting combines a classic, modern or traditional kitchen scheme with sophisticated lighting. You can combine mood, task and convenience  lighting, with internal cabinet  and drawer lights, over and under cabinet lights and plinth lighting, as well as adding dimmers and remote controls.

New: The deVOL Air range kitchen

by  • October 15, 2012 • Appliances, Favourite things, Kitchen furniture, Kitchen news, Kitchens, New designs • 0 Comments

As you can imagine, we see lots of kitchens every day, so it really takes something special for us to go ‘wow’. However, when Ysanne, saw this amazing deVOL Kitchen at 100% design, she was bowled over.

    Air kitchen by deVOL

The Air range by deVOL, is not trying to be a retro kitchen, but a new take on modern. The shape is inspired by many things, including the iconic Airstream caravan, vintage cars and the hulls of traditional boats.

The cutting edge design features curved aluminium sides, a beautiful bent oak frame finish and polished resin and stone doors.

One of the defining features is the floating curved end cabinets, where rolled aluminium end panels meet a classic oak frame, secured by chunky architectural carriage bolts.

To maintain the clean, unbroken lines, all the doors and drawers are handle-less and are ‘push to open’ – including the door to the unique Smeg fully integrated handless technology dishwasher, the D16013NH.

The range is available in a choice of ten shades, from natural blues, greys and greens, to vibrant orange and green and each one co-ordinates with Smeg‘s range of 50’s style retro fridges.

We love it – do you?
