My dream kitchen would definitely include an island. Luckily, there are lots of great designs around, infact, I’m spoilt for choice. Here are a few of my favourites.

This gorgeous, curvaceous walnut island has storage on one side and a breakfast bar on the other. An upstand separates the food prep and dining zones.

This Shaker-style island is both pretty and practical and is ideal if you don’t need to include appliances in your island.

This eye-catching, contemporary island, with its distinctive shape and angular lines has plenty of storage space.

The island, in this traditional, cream kitchen, has been used to house a double butler sink.

They’ve packed a lot into this stylish island, incorporating the hob, a wine cooler, integrated chopping boards and pretty, wicker storage baskets.

The island in this open-plan kitchen has been designed to incorporate the pillar, rather than sitting on either side of it.

And finally, the built-in oversized chopping block in this island, provides plenty of space for more than one person to work around it. The skylights offer extra natual light over the food prep area.

Absolutely love the first island and that 3rd contemporary one. We fit loads of islands now especially when converting 2 rooms into a diner kitchen. They really help make the kitchen become a central part of the household

I’ve been looking for ideas of how to incorporate a butler sink in a modern kitchen and the fourth image on this post is exactly what i’ve got in mind. Thanks for the inspiration, great post.

I personally think small kitchen islands look neat especially ones without a sink but an attached breakfast bar, but then again I don’t have much space in my kitchen for a large island.
