• Splashback inspiration

Much as I love my kitchen there is one thing I wish I’d done differently (well, two but therein lies another tale) and that’s had a splashback behind the hob. I went for a simple upstand – which looks lovely but actually just gathers dust and crumbs – teamed with a lacquered wash over the painted wall.

While at first this was fine, I’m afraid a succession of bolognese sauces and red thai curries has left the wall peppered with food splashes that seem resistant to even the most determined rubbing with a Cif-soaked cloth.

So, I’m on the look-out for a simple splashback that will match the kitchen. While I like the sleek look of painted glass, there are plug cut-outs to consider and even a short run can be costly. And the same applies if I’m thinking of matching the composite I’ve got on the worktops.

Tiles went out of fashion a bit a little while ago but they are back in favour now and but I’m a big fan of the retro brick-shaped ones. Perhaps I’ll get some to match the floor… If you’re after ideas too, then here are a few of my favourites that I’ll be adding to my House to Home moodboard some time soon.
