I mentioned yesterday that my kitchen is looking a lot grander than the simple Shaker look I was aiming for and it’s not the first time, exactly the same thing happened in my last kitchen too. I’m not sure whether it’s because the cornicing on my plate rack (which I brought with me from the last kitchen) is too fancy to be Shaker or whether country kitchen is actually more my style.
I’ve long had a theory that, however radical a change of hairstyle anyone has, within a matter of weeks it’s gravitated back to their usual style and I’m beginning to think the same is true of kitchens!
I was discussing this with Helen from Homes and Gardens on Friday who seems to be suffering the same problem (with her kitchen, not her hair!) Having vowed that her new home and kitchen would be more sleek and modern she’s finding herself sneaking some of her usual style back in and, despite agreeing that their new house would be a wallpaper-free zone, she’s been painting wallpaper-like detail onto the walls!
As Helen pointed out though, if everything is going to gradually drift back to our default style there will at least be a cohesive style to the whole house so I’m just going to go with the flow!
